The land of the free
is mostly a thought
running in your head
as you leave one place
with its lies
for a new one
with its promises.
And as truth
becomes a mirage
you just need to forget
the signs on the road
and keep some faith.
Somehow that seems
to keep you running
over a purpose
even though
it won't change
the world under your feet.
